Advocacy Group Applauds Supreme Court Decision on Health Care

JACKSON- The Mississippi Center for Justice (MCJ) issued the following statement following the Supreme Court decision in King v. Burwell, which was a challenge to the Affordable Care Act.

“The U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling this morning means that residents of Mississippi (and other states on the federal exchange) are eligible for tax subsidies to help purchase health insurance. Over 100,000 Mississippians have received these subsidies under the Affordable Care Act, and without them, health insurance would be out of reach, with insurance premiums projected to spike by 650-774%. The Mississippi Center for Justice celebrates this decision, which will bring peace of mind and security to our state’s families and healthcare providers.”

The Mississippi Center for Justice is a nonprofit, public interest law firm committed to advancing racial and economic justice. Supported and staffed by attorneys, community leaders and volunteers, the Center develops and pursues strategies to combat discrimination and poverty statewide.
