Today’s the day. The day that determines the future of women’s rights. The day that dictates the authenticity of liberty for American women and the health of our nation. The day that charts the course of millions of lives.

Today, the Supreme Court heard oral arguments in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, a case that threatens to upend women’s fundamental right to exercise autonomy in reproductive choices in Mississippi and nationwide. The Mississippi Center for Justice, which is co-counsel on the case, is fighting relentlessly to ensure that the constitutional right to an abortion remains intact.

There is no question: For many in America, abortion is an absolutely crucial health option. Women need to be able to choose whether and when to bear children. If women don’t have the option, it can lead to devastating health consequences for the mother, child, family, and – ultimately – society.

There’s a grand irony here. While some lawmakers try to dismantle reproductive rights in the name of “life,” our government limits access to basic needs like health care, food, housing, and education. In other words, our legislators want to decide whether a fetus exits a womb but won’t lift a finger to ensure that women and their families have the resources to live healthy, fruitful lives.

Here’s where lawmakers should be devoting their “pro-life” attention: Expanding access to Medicaid. Ensuring affordable housing. Providing a comprehensive education to all children. Protecting immigrants from gross abuses.

Yes, the hypocrisy is exhausting.  We will not grow weary. We’re fighting for all of this and more. Join us in our fight.
