The Southern Center for Human Rights is presenting its 2020 Frederick Douglass Human Rights Award to the champions for Mr. Curtis Flowers, a man who was tried six times for the murder of four people in a furniture store in Mississippi. With this award, SCHR honors the instructive and awe-inspiring combination of talents that formed a multi-pronged approach to save Mr. Flowers’ life and expose the rampant injustice in his case.
MCJ is very proud of the entire defense team, but especially of its own Rob McDuff, director of MCJ’s George Riley Impact Litigation Initiative.
The event will feature remarks from Curtis Flowers and Professor Ibram X. Kendi, author of the New York Times bestseller How To Be An Antiracist. There will also be a special performance from the Prison Music Project.
The event will be broadcast virtually via Vimeo. The live award presentation will begin at 6:00 PM CST on Wednesday, November 11.
