The 2020 Election is a Win for Democracy, Says Mississippi Center for Justice

Jackson, Mississippi – Vangela M. Wade, president and CEO of the Mississippi Center for Justice, issued the following statement after former Vice President Joe Biden’s election as the next president of the United States of America:

“This is a historic day for our democracy. Despite systemic efforts to suppress, confuse, and intimidate voters, the American electorate — particularly people of color — turned out at the polls at historic levels. Today, we celebrate the power of the American people to decide the future of the country.”

We hope the new administration will keep its promises to support policies that Mississippians most desperately need — like expanded access to health care, criminal justice reform, better handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, and more. And as we enter this new chapter of our nation’s history, MCJ will continue to fight for change in Mississippi.”
