Statement from Mississippi Center for Justice on the Indictment of the Southern Poverty Law Center

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 22, 2026

At a time when organizations working to advance justice and civil rights are increasingly under attack, we stand with the Southern Poverty Law Center.

For 55 years, the SPLC has confronted hate, defended democracy, and protected the rights of people and communities too often pushed to the margins. Their work has helped expose extremism, hold powerful actors accountable, and move this country closer to its stated ideals.

The attacks on the SPLC are part of a broader effort to discredit and silence organizations that challenge injustice and speak hard truths.

These attacks are not just about one organization. They are about weakening the entire ecosystem of groups working to build a more just and inclusive society. They are about creating fear where there should be courage.

We stand with the SPLC as they defend their integrity and continue their mission. We stand with all organizations facing similar attacks. And we stand with the communities whose rights, safety, and dignity are on the line.

This moment demands resolve, not retreat.

We will continue to speak out.

We will continue to organize.

We will continue to take a stand for justice, for truth, and for a future where dignity and equality are not up for debate.

In solidarity, now and always.
