MCJ is advancing racial and economic justice across Mississippi as a homegrown public interest law firm. During the first quarter of 2026, MCJ hosted 60 advocacy events, including legal clinics, community meetings, outreach initiatives, and court appearances alongside our clients. Through our three offices, which serve as community hubs, we are committed to meeting people where they are and connecting Mississippians across the state with the resources and legal support they need.

In 2025, MCJ engaged with communities nearly 280 times through clinics, community meetings, outreach events, and court appearances with our clients.
This map gives you an idea of our
boots-on-the-ground efforts in Mississippi. The small purple icons represent all the communities we visited. The seven (7) gold-and-white icons represent major advocacy wins.
Example of Wins:
– The Civic Engagement & Government Accountability Campaign successfully deepened its engagement with the Delta State University student body. Those connections allowed MCJ to register Delta State students to vote in upcoming elections.
– After winning a federal court order in 2024 requiring the creation of three new majority Black legislative districts, the Impact Litigation Campaign and its partners persuaded the court to reject the Legislature’s remedial senate redistricting plan in Desoto County and to instead order the adoption of a better plan for future elections, including the November 2025 special elections.
– Thanks to advocacy and collaboration among the Health Justice Campaign and other stakeholders, the Mississippi Legislature passed a bill that corrected problematic language in Mississippi’s Medicaid presumptive eligibility for pregnant women. This bill became law, bringing Mississippi into compliance with federal standards and a crucial step closer to expanding healthcare access for expectant mothers in the state.
