FREE Legal Disaster Clinic Will Offer Advice To Winston County Residents

JACKSON—A free legal clinic designed to provide guidance to Winston County residents in the wake of the recent tornadoes will be held on Thursday, May 22, at the MSU Winston County Extension Office. The clinic is sponsored by the Mississippi Center for Justice. In addition to staff from the Center, local attorneys from Winston County will be present. The clinic will cover several topics, including FEMA appeals, insurance questions, SBA loans, contractor fraud and heirship.

Beth Orlansky, advocacy director with the Mississippi Center for Justice, said the clinic will call on the Center’s established expertise in legal advice following a natural disaster. “We learned a lot in the wake of Hurricane Katrina,” Orlansky said. “When natural disaster strikes, daily life can be in complete turmoil. Clear answers are often hard to find, particularly when it comes to questions of law and property.

“This clinic will help Winston County residents affected by the tornadoes find clarity and direction on some of their most vexing legal questions. We look forward to it!” The clinic will be Thursday, May 22 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the MSU Winston County Extension Office, 460 Vance St., Louisville.
