Jackson, MS – Rally Against Drax
Mississippi Center for Justice’s Economic Justice Campaign has been working with the Gloster, MS community in their fight against a wood pellet plant that has been poisoning their air for over a decade. MCJ is acting as co-counsel before the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality Permit Board opposing Drax’s proposed permit to increase emissions. This permit is essentially a license to pollute. Drax has argued that without the permit the plant will have to shut down and the region will lose the economic stimulus it provides. However, Gloster residents have long argued that they don’t see that economic stimulus. Instead, they are saddled with the long-term health impacts of a business that extracts wealth and greenwashes the harm it causes. This is one of the arguments EJ intends to make before the permit board on October 14-15 as part of a broad coalition of groups.
Join us at the rally and RAISE. YOUR. VOICE.
Dogwood Alliance has organized this rally to take place right outside of MDEQ headquarters to show the permit board members that residents and advocates will not stay silent as these decisions are made about their community. Together, let’s show up, and in one voice demand the permit board to Axe Drax!
