Advocacy Group Applauds Supreme Court Decision on Fair Housing

JACKSON- The Mississippi Center for Justice (MCJ) issued the following statement following the Supreme Court decision in Texas v. The Inclusive Communities Project, which was a challenge to the use of disparate impact claims under the Fair Housing Act.

“Today’s ruling in favor of a critical component of the Fair Housing Act is a strong victory for equal opportunity and is a step in moving our Nation toward a more inclusive society. When Americans are denied fair housing, they are also denied access to good jobs, quality education, safe streets, transit, and a clean and healthy environment. For Mississippi, this decision preserves a vital principle to ensure that organizations such as the Mississippi Center for Justice, can challenge housing discrimination that remains embedded in our zoning boards and housing finance institutions.”

The Mississippi Center for Justice is a nonprofit, public interest law firm committed to advancing racial and economic justice. Supported and staffed by attorneys, community leaders and volunteers, the Center develops and pursues strategies to combat discrimination and poverty statewide.
