The pandemic caused economic uncertainty within many Mississippi households. Despite an eviction moratorium, many Mississippi landlords pursued evictions, both within and outside of the courts system. MCJ established the state’s only COVID-related eviction prevention hotline for renters who suspected that they were being unlawfully evicted. To date, we have assisted over 400 individuals and families by providing information about protecting their rights and accessing resources for rental assistance.
