As a project team member of the “Plan for Opportunity,” Mississippi’s first U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Sustainable Communities Initiative regional planning grant, the Center’s Gulf Coast office has helped to develop a comprehensive assessment and strategy for the three coastal counties. This framework brings together political and business leaders, planners, and community advocates to evaluate the connections between transportation, economic development, housing, food and water systems. The Center’s participation in this long range research and planning effort deepens its understanding of how communities can realize greater opportunity over time.
